Losing that extra poundage is not easy. It seems very difficult even to keep the waistline from growing. But there are people who have lost weight and have kept their waistlines in check. How they do this is quite an interesting story. Rolyn Goda, 26, knows what it is like to be overweight. “It started two years ago after a messy break-up with my long time boyfriend,” she admitted. “I got no idea how that extra weight got into my body since that time.” As her waistline grew, the personal life of the 5-foot-2 Filipina, who was once petite and confident, became an embarrassment. “I have become self-conscious about everything – meeting new acquaintances, dresses I can’t wear, and old friends reminding me of my former vital statistics,” she says. “The ultimate embarrassment came when quite by accident I met my ex-boyfriend in a party.” Just like many the others, Goda has her share of frustrations after attempting to lose weight. It seemed to her that every pound she shed was two pounds gained. She almost gave up trying until that chance meeting with her ex-boyfriend in a party. She decided she had to do something. She started frequenting the Cebu Family Park, walking, playing badminton with her best friend (also on a diet plan), and becoming more picky on the food she ate. She kept her diet plan a secret for fear of another failure. After just a month and minus 15 pounds, her friends began to notice and started complimenting her. She stuck to her diet plan and made adjustments on her new lifestyle that she thoroughly enjoyed. In three months, she regained her petite form and her confidence. Then, one day, her former boyfriend called and arranged a dinner date but at a restaurant of her choice, of course. Days later the guy proposed. Goda believes she will look great in a wedding gown. She had read lots of information about food – its nutritional value and calorie content. She kept track of her regular meals and snacks, and started discarding what was not healthy food and added healthy food that fit her food plan. And just as important, she started doing physical activity: walking, playing badminton, and doing manual work cleaning her house, just to keep her moving. “It’s a swell lifestyle,” she says laughing. Lifestyle indeed defines people. It is something that is a very significant factor in people’s lives. Successful individuals would tell us how they realized their full potential by stopping once in while, evaluating how they’re doing. “Lifestyle check” is what they call it. Many may ask, what is Goda’s secret to losing weight? She didn’t undergo artificial surgery, the Atkins or the 3-Day Diet. “I’ve got no special secret,” Goda says. She says that what she knows is known already by almost everybody. You can find out from your friends, read of it in books and magazines; it’s all over the Internet.
